Quiet modern interior detail in soft daylight

About us

We design intelligent homes around people, not products

Cue Home is an independent home technology practice in Cape Town. We handle the whole thing — consulting, design, supply, installation, configuration, automation, training and support.

The background

Making visual magic happen.

Our director's career began as a Special Effects Technical Director in the theatre industry. The work was to take an idea — usually described rather than specified — and make it real on stage using lighting, technology, movement, effects and a great deal of technical problem-solving.

Theatre teaches two habits worth bringing into a home. The first is starting from the experience and working backwards to the equipment, instead of the other way round. The second is that it has to work every night, on cue, in front of an audience — which is a useful standard for a house that has to work at 6am on a Monday.

Start with the idea or the problem. We'll work out the technology behind it.

We're comfortable in the detail — protocols, networks, controllers, edge cases — but that's our job, not yours. Yours is to tell us what you'd like the home to do.

How we work

Six things we hold to

Start with the person, not the product

The first conversation is about how you use the house — where you sit, what irritates you, what you'd never remember to do. Products come last.

The technology should disappear

If you notice the equipment, we've designed it badly. Switches should still work as switches, and the clever part should be invisible.

Independent and multi-brand

We're not a dealership for one range. We choose what suits the house and tell you plainly where the compromises are.

Say what won't work

Some ideas aren't worth the money, and some products don't do what the box says. You'll hear that from us before you spend anything.

Leave it documented

Every system is handed over with documentation and credentials, so you're never held hostage by one person's memory.

Stay responsible

Installation is the middle of the relationship, not the end of it. We support what we build.

Who we work with

Luxury homes and ordinary apartments

We work on large properties in Camps Bay and Constantia where the brief covers lighting, blinds, climate, access and cameras across a whole house. We also work on two-bedroom apartments where the brief is “the Wi-Fi is terrible and the lighting is depressing”.

Both are proper projects. The same process applies — it just runs at a different scale, and the second one often costs less than people expect.

We work alongside architects, interior designers and building contractors, and with qualified, registered electrical contractors where a project involves regulated electrical work.

The complete service

What you can expect from us

01

Consult

We start with how you want to live in the house — not with a product list. Site visit, questions, and an honest view of what's worth doing.

02

Design

System architecture, product and compatibility selection, cable and device positions, and a written scope you can actually read.

03

Supply

We source the right equipment for the job across brands, rather than pushing one range because it's what we stock.

04

Install

Neat, documented installation. Where the work is regulated electrical work, it's carried out by qualified, registered electrical contractors.

05

Configure & Automate

Scenes, schedules, presence, dashboards and the small behaviours that make a home feel effortless. Then we test it properly.

06

Teach & Support

We hand it over so the whole household can use it — and we stay responsible afterwards with remote and on-site support.

Tell us what you'd like your home to do.

Send us a message with the room, the problem or the idea. We'll tell you honestly what's possible and what it involves.
