What does a smart home cost in Cape Town?

Accepted Answer

It depends entirely on scope, which is why we quote after seeing the property. A single room — say lighting control and better Wi-Fi in a living area — is a very different project to a whole-home system with lighting, blinds, climate, cameras and access. Many clients start room-by-room and expand over time, which is why we design a system that can grow rather than one that has to be replaced.

Can you make my existing home smart, or does it need rewiring?

Most homes can be retrofitted. We use in-wall modules behind existing switches, smart switches and dimmers, wireless sensors and controllers so you keep your existing light fittings and finishes. Where neutral wires are missing or the board needs attention, we tell you upfront and plan around it.

Do I have to use Home Assistant?

Accepted Answer

No. Home Assistant is excellent and we install and maintain a lot of it, but it is one option among several. Some homes are better served by Apple Home, Google Home or a manufacturer's own system. We recommend based on how you live and who else in the house needs to use it.

Question 4

Will my existing devices work together?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Integrating what you already own is a large part of what we do — lights, cameras, gates, AC, blinds and speakers from different brands brought into one interface. We'll confirm what integrates cleanly, what integrates partially, and what is better replaced.

Question 5

What happens when the internet goes down or the power trips?

Accepted Answer

We design so that the essentials keep working locally where the equipment allows it: switches still work as switches, and local automations keep running. Remote access and notifications need internet, but your lights shouldn't depend on a cloud server in another country.

Question 6

Do you work with Apple Home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We install and configure Apple Home / HomeKit systems, including Matter and Thread devices, and can bridge devices that aren't natively supported so they appear correctly in the Home app.

Do you use Shelly devices?

Accepted Answer

Where they suit the job. Shelly in-wall modules are a practical way to make existing lighting and switching smart without replacing every fitting. We choose per project rather than fitting the same brand everywhere.

Can you fix a Home Assistant setup someone else installed?

Accepted Answer

Yes — this is one of our most requested services. We audit the existing system, repair or rebuild integrations and automations, tidy dashboards, secure remote access, set up backups, and then document it so it's maintainable.

Do you work in apartments?

Accepted Answer

Very often. Apartments are ideal for lighting control, better Wi-Fi, smart access and climate automation, and most of it is non-invasive and body-corporate friendly.

Do you work with architects and interior designers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The earlier we're involved the better the result — switch positions, neutral wiring, Ethernet and access point locations, blind power and equipment cabinets are far cheaper to plan than to retrofit.

Are you electricians?

We are home technology specialists. Where a project involves regulated electrical work, it is carried out by qualified, registered electrical contractors working alongside us, so the installation is compliant as well as clever.
