Home Assistant is the most capable smart home platform available, and the easiest to end up half-finished. Plenty of Cape Town homes have one running on a Raspberry Pi in a cupboard, with integrations that broke after an update and a dashboard only one person in the house understands.
We install it on appropriate hardware, connect it to the devices you already own, and build dashboards for everyone in the household rather than for the person who enjoys tinkering. Automations are written to be readable and predictable, and we set up backups and secure remote access so the system survives updates, power failures and moving house.
You don't have to use Home Assistant. If Apple Home, Google Home or a manufacturer platform is a better fit for your household, we'll say so — often the best answer is Home Assistant doing the thinking, with Apple Home or Google Home as the everyday interface.
