Durbanville · New build — design-only

Durbanville new build: design-only plans, builder-installed

A new family home where the client wanted Cue Home's design and specifications, but their own builder and electrician to do the physical install — with us on call for sign-off.

The request

  • “We're building with a contractor we trust, but he's never done a smart home. We need someone to design the whole technology layer so he can just build it.”
  • “I want proper lighting control, good Wi-Fi everywhere, cameras, and blind automation — but planned before the walls go up.”
  • “Can you hand us a set of plans our builder can actually work from?”

How we tackled it

  • Joined the project at slab stage, before first-fix electrical, so every cable, switch box and neutral wire was planned in advance.
  • Produced a full lighting, network and automation drawing set: switch schedules, dimming zones, neutral-wire callouts, AP and camera locations, and a structured-cabling cabinet layout.
  • Specified exact products and quantities in a supply schedule the builder could quote against, brand-flexible where it mattered.
  • Stayed on call through the build for the builder's questions, reviewed first-fix before walls closed, and came back for final configuration and commissioning once power was on.
  • Documented everything so the client owns a complete record of what's in their walls.

Outcome

What changed

  • The builder installed a complete smart home using plans he could follow — no on-the-fly decisions, no missed cables.
  • Every switch, sensor, AP and camera had a home before the walls closed, so nothing is retrofitted or surface-mounted.
  • The client owns a full record of what's behind every wall.
  • Cue Home commissioned the system on power-up and handed over a working smart home.
